Terms & Conditions
Please ensure you have read and understood these Terms and Conditions before booking your taster or course. By booking or attending a class you are deemed to have read, understood and accepted them.
Cancellations and rescheduling: We can provide a full refund or reschedule 21 days or more before the start date of a course or session. You are allowed to donate your spot in a course to a friend or family member if unable to attend your course or class.
Clay usage and firing costs:
Taster sessions: All materials costs are included in the price of the session. Each attendee can choose up to three pieces to be glazed and fired at no extra charge.
6-week and 11-week courses: Materials and glazes are provided throughout the course. The pieces you decide to fire are weighed at the end of each session and charged at £3 per kg, to be payed on the last session of the course.
Collecting work: You will receive an email informing you when your pots are ready to be collected (normally 3-4 weeks after a Throwing Taster and 2-3 weeks after the final class on a course). From receiving this email you will have three months to collect your work during our collection times (stated in the email). If these times are unsuitable for you, we can arrange a different collection time for you. Any work not collected within three months will be discarded.
We cannot guarantee that all work will come out of the firings undamaged. It is not the responsibility of Urban Potters Classes to replace damaged work in the kilns.
11-week course renewal: 6 weeks into a course everyone enrolled will be asked if they would like to continue once that block comes to an end and will have priority booking on the following course.
Disabilities: If you have a disability please let us know before you arrive at the studio. We can accommodate many disabilities but it’s good to know in advance so that we can be fully prepared.
Unless stated otherwise, classes and courses are for adults only.
Health and Safety in the Pottery
The main hazard with pottery materials comes from breathing in the fine dust that is created by the clay making processes. This dry clay contains respirable crystalline silica or metal compounds which are hazardous. As well as silica, some glazes and colours contain a number of heavy metals that are potential toxic hazards.
In order to avoid creating or contributing to this dust hazard, good practice must always be followed. For your protection please follow the points below:
No eating or drinking in the pottery work area. Use designated areas if you would like to eat or drink.
Wipe spillages when they occur. NEVER leave spillages to dry out.
Always wipe with a wet sponge.
Clean the glaze area, wedging bench and sinks after use.
Clean wheels and hand building table after use.
If necessary, clean the wall behind your wheel with clean water.
Use a wet mop to remove spills or trodden in clay.
Please take care when using some pottery tools as they can be sharp.
Clean all tools and equipment after use and return them to their correct place.
Wear aprons or overalls at all times.
Sandals or open shoes should not be worn in the workshop.
Use the hooks provided for coats and bags. Do not leave bags on the floor as these could be a tripping hazard.
Wear masks when handling dry materials.
If you need to sand a piece, this must be done outside whilst wearing a mask.
DO NOT ENTER the kiln area. Kilns become very hot during firing and can burn you.
