This is a 6-week throwing course for those looking to get familiar with the wheel, or develop their throwing skills further. Students will learn::

  • The cycle of clay from start to finish and  information about types of clay and firings

  • How to centre the clay and form a pot on the potter's wheel.

    - we will begin by focusing on developing strong key throwing skills - centring, lifting, shaping (cylinders and bowls) and finishing on the wheel.

    - an experienced and skilled tutor will expand by teaching more complex shapes and with bigger weights of clay dependant on each student's ability.

    - turning (trimming) a pot - this is the method of finishing and finessing thrown work once leather hard (partly dried) by returning it to the wheel and removing excess clay using a metal tool.

  • Pulling handles to give your pots extra functionality and style.

  • Creating your own makers mark to stamp your pots with.

  • Surface decoration - carving and slip decoration techniques

  • How to glaze your pots to achieve the best finish with our wide selection of unique, in-house studio glazes.
